The Argyllshire Gathering was started in 1871 when several landowners and families of Argyll decided they should get together annually to socialise and to compete against each other. It was the forerunner of Highland Games as we know them today.
Since then our association has developed and is made up of members who have a strong connection with Argyll and are keen to promote Argyll both locally and in the wider world. We hold a Ball and Dance annually and also host other social gatherings and dinners throughout the year.
We organise the Oban Games which are held every year on the fourth Thursday of August. Click here go to the Games website.
We are instrumental in the teaching and promoting of the Highland bagpipe through our Charity, the Argyllshire Piping Trust.
We hold the foremost Piping competitions annually where pipers compete for the Gold Medal and silver medals amongst other prizes. These competitions attract Pipers from all over the world.
